September 2023

Dear Fairview Families,

Happy September everyone! I have enjoyed getting to know you and your children. Mrs. Nahal and I are very excited about this school year. This letter will outline some important topics for all families.

Dates to Remember:
● September 12 - Back-To-School Night
● September 15 - Million Fathers March
● September 18 - First PTA General Meeting and Election 4PM
● September 19 - Picture Day

Million Fathers March
On Friday, September 15, HUSD is actively promoting both regular school attendance and
academic achievement in a promotion campaign called the Million Fathers March. The Million
Fathers March is an opportunity for male caregivers of all ethnicities to participate and show
their positive presence on HUSD campuses. We hope that this event will be a great way to kick
off a new year and welcome families back to our school sites. On Friday, September 15, in more
than 700 cities, men will take children to school to help our children be safer, more secure, and
better prepared to learn. This year's event theme is, “The Power of Presence: Fathers Engaged in
Education.” Look for more info soon from our Family Engagement Specialist, Mr. Hubert Reed III.

Our first PTA meeting will be at 4PM on campus on September 18. We found interested parties
for positions but we always need more support. Help us kick off the year right by attending. Any
questions, email Mr. Reed

Rainbow Weeks!
Our Pre-School, TK and Kinder classes are learning their colors. Everyone is welcome to participate. The
assigned color of the day is on the website.

Please be kind to one another in front of the school during drop off and pick up. Do not park in
the bus zone and please kindly support our bus drivers who are on a tight schedule. School
buses must be able to get through, and we must be able to keep traffic flowing to the best of our

We realize that parking is a challenge. To comply with school safety regulations, please park
only in the designated visitor parking area in the main parking lot, or in appropriate street
parking areas. Kindergarten, PreK and TK students must be walked to their gate. Please arrive
early to secure parking in the above areas.

School Attendance
Attendance is important for your child’s education and future.
A few reminders to our families, first bell rings at 8:17am, we ask students to be on campus by
8:20am. Please communicate any absences with our office staff (510) 723-3830 ext. 9 for the
direct attendance line. Please visit our school website for more information about absences.

School Supplies
Please label water bottles, lunch boxes, and sweatshirts. Please label all items including
sweatshirts and jackets. The school provides basic supplies and teachers may request a list of
optional items for students to bring to school.

District issued Chromebooks will be brought to school and return home as requested by the
teacher. If your student was not issued a district Chromebook, one will be provided for use
during the school day. We will have more information regarding device usage for this year in the
upcoming weeks.

Review COVID-19 Guidelines/Procedures
Masks are not currently required at HUSD schools and properties, but families may elect to have
their child wear a mask. This is a family decision. The school also has masks available. HUSD will
monitor local health data and guidance from county health and education officials and
re-evaluate guidance as appropriate.

Coffee with the Principal
The next Coffee with Principal will be on September 22 on Zoom from 9AM-9:45AM. Mr. Reed
will post and send the zoom link via email, website, and on Class Dojo. We are committed to
creating a supportive learning environment for all students.

With respect,
Ms. Matteis
